" Immigrants In Our Own Land "

This poem written by Jimmy Santiago Baca means a lot to me because I know people who have came here, to the United States from México to have a better life. Its really brave of them to do tha because they have to go through so much while crossing over. My dad would always tell me how people he knew would go through, that people would get kidnapped and call there families to send money, others died on the way. They would try crossing rivers and some wouldn't make it to the other side, because the currents were to fast that they would drown. Its just scary thinking about all the obstacles those people have to go through just to try and have a better life in the U.S. I personally like this poem because its so sad and true about everything it refers to and how they would go days without eating or drinking water. And especially for those who would get caught by immigration , its really sad because they would keep them a few days and give them only so little to eat. My dad also talked to me about how once he got caught by immigration, they inly have him a piece of bread, water, and an orange; he was so hungry that when he ate the orange he decided to eat the skin also because he was so hungry. Its really sad for those families that never heard anything else from their loved ones that never made it to the United States.

Until Forever Dies

This is us,
Never alone,
We have each other,
Whether in the same room,
Or by phone,
You will always be there,
I know you'll never leave,
And there's one thing I know,
This is the truth,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.

Because I'm yours,
And you're mine,
Listening to your heart,
A rhythm so fine,
So much comfort,
So much love,
With only you I feel this,
Not any other boy,
Can I love so much,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.

Because we're in love,
As everyone can see,
Never a broken heart,
Never a tear cried,
You can hold me in your arms,
And I'll hold you in mine,
We will never let go,
Until the end of time,
'cause I will never leave you,
And you won't leave me,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.
