James Mercer Langston Hughes was born February 1,1902, in Joplin, Missouri. He was raised by his grandmother until he was thirteen, due to the fact that his parents divorced. His life and work were enormously important in shaping the artistic contributions of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Hughes refused to differentiate between his personal experience and the common experience of black America. He wanted to tell the stories of his people in ways that reflected their actual culture, including both their suffering and their love of music, laughter, and language itself. After his graduation from Lincoln in 1929, Langston Hughes published his first novel, Not Without Laughter. May 22, 1967, Langston Hughes died from complications of prostate cancer. His funeral little in the way of spoken eulogy, but filled with jazz and blues music.

Quote by Langston Hughes

"The Weary Blues" by Langston Hughes

 Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,
Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,
     I heard a Negro play.
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
      He did a lazy sway. . . .
      He did a lazy sway. . . .
To the tune o’ those Weary Blues.
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that poor piano moan with melody.
      O Blues!
Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool
He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool.
      Sweet Blues!
Coming from a black man’s soul.
      O Blues!
In a deep song voice with a melancholy tone
I heard that Negro sing, that old piano moan—
“Ain’t got nobody in all this world,
Ain’t got nobody but ma self.
I’s gwine to quit ma frownin’
And put ma troubles on the shelf.”

Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor.
He played a few chords then he sang some more—
      “I got the Weary Blues
      And I can’t be satisfied.
      Got the Weary Blues
      And can’t be satisfied—
      I ain’t happy no mo’
And I wish that I had died.”
And far into the night he crooned that tune.
The stars went out and so did the moon.
The singer stopped playing and went to bed
While the Weary Blues echoed through his head. He slept like a rock or a man that’s dead.

Psychology -(Masterpiece)

Child psychology is one of the many branches of psychology and one of the most frequently studied specialty areas. This particular branch focuses on the mind and behavior of children from prenatal development through adolescence. Child psychology deals not only with how children grow physically, but with their mental, emotional and social development as well.

The Different Contexts of Child Psychology

When you think of development, what comes to mind? If you are like most people, you probably think about the internal factors that influence how a child grows, such as genetics and personal characteristics. However, development involves much more than the influences that arise from within an individual. Environmental factors such as social relationships and the culture in which we live also play essential roles.

1. Why are people so critical to cops?

2. Why do cops do their job?
- Cops do their job because they want to help out with things that are happening.
3. Why do people choose a side before evaluating both sides?

Catcher in the Rye

Chapters 1-2
The first two chapters of this novel is mainly about the main character and his view of things. Holden is a person that is really straight froward, he speaks what's in his mind even though he sometimes says things that can be really inappropriate. Holden describes his brother as a writer and that is rich with a jaguar. Holden talks to Mr. Spencer and he tells Holden about his future, but Holden doesn't really like people caring for him because he walked off from his history teacher. He's just not use to having someone care for him.

Music as Literature

Can we consider music to be literature? How do we define literature? What is the difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony?

~ Literature is "writings in which expression and form, in connection with ideas of permanent and universal interest, are characteristic or essential features, as poetry, novels, history, biography, and essays." Music also has the characteristics of literature. A novel, a rap, a song, and a symphony are all related because of this concept. Like literature, music can use words to tell a story. Music can make someone feel sad or mad, just with the lyrics.
